Tomas Barfod | Salton Sea

Well known artist Tomas Barfod publishes his second LP Salton Sea on the label Friends of Friends. Originally from Kopenhagen, Tomas Barfod started his music career as drummer of the disco/krautrock band WhoMadeWho. In 2007 he released his first, still zeitgeisty solo album on Gomma Records under the name Tomboy. He released on various labels like Get Physical, Turbo, Tartelet and Kompakt and is part of Jatoma, Filur (with Kasper Bjørke) and was a founding member of the label Tartelet Records. Now Tomas Barfod moved to LA and a different story begins.

His album Salton Sea is one of this albums I listend over and over again and can’t get enough of it. It’s very good produced, very dynamic compared to a lot of other records coming out these days. It contains all various styles of club-music, from electro to more  UK Funky and influenced House Music, to strophe & refrain arranged songs, technoid and dark songs. In most Songs you will hear catchy pop sequences, grooving drum parts and cinematic synth patterns. Anyway you will have to figure out yourselves why this album is so great, It’s gonna be released the 21 May 2012, you can pre-order it here.

Here are two snippets and the Single. Those are good songs but I personally think they’re not the greatest on the album, so make sure to check out the album as soon it is released.

KLS 017 | Jordan Peak | Missdemeanour EP

Supported by Andy Cato (Groove Armada), Anthony Collins, dOP, Joris Voorn, Mark Fanciulli, Riva Starr, Gavin Herlihy and Ray Okpara.

Jordan Peak is already a well known name for those in the know, with a string of fantastic releases on Tsuba, One, Morris/Audio, Saved, Robsoul and Area Remote (phew!) Jordan has ticked the boxes of all of our favourite labels here at Klasse and its a pleasure to welcome him to the family for his own release.

Dont forget to buy it here.

enjoy!

Ron Flatter | Everything In A Box

Giving up the skateboard and hip hop ten years ago was probably one of Ron Flatters best ideas. Since then, the german musician is delivering the electronic music scene with quality releases. Ron Flatter’s music has a warm, groovy feel combined with a touch of ease, which is somehow always a part of his productions. His work got summed up last fall with the Everything In A Box album (check Juno player), consisting of older tracks like Achill and his recent work. From time to time he is also giving away tracks, like this one recently.
Check out his soundcloud account for more and be sure to catch him at Garage in Basel this saturday!

GBM017|REMIX EP|Nordwest Passage

“Nordwest-Passage” is one of the titles of Laurent New’s debut-release (GBM 016) for Gelbes Billett Musik Label.

Six re-interpretations from the GBM main artists. Slow-motion discofunk, dark and elegant Techhouse, smooth house-vibes, minimal weirdness and chugging basslines all feature in abundance on this package, presenting the various flavours and talents of the labels roster.

Dont forget to buy it here.

Groove Armada | No Knock EP

Groove Armada is probably a name which calls up definitions like big room house in our minds, but the London based duo consisting of Tom Findlay and Andy Cato are in a different mode here. Around since 10 years the duo are combining their influences of house, disco and funk in a masterful way in this EP.
It starts with the weird, sub-heavy ‘Oh Tweak Me’, holding the peak at a certain level without exaggerating it.
And “peak” is the word for this EP because they always seem to know how to handle it. Besides the deeper tracks ‘Stevie Latenight’ and ‘LUV 91′, the B1 side ‘There Was Rhythm’ comes like a secret weapon, showing the big room skills of Groove Armada as closest. The timeless bassline with the amazing build up combined with the heavy pianos seems to be a track which could have worked in 1989 and today.

The EP is out on vinyl in a few days and digitally at the 5th of May on Hypercolour. Be sure to stay updated and buy it.
