Preview: Jungle Street Groove

The 13th edition of Jungle Street Groove takes place this saturday in Basel, and we are participating with our own float! What’s Jungle Street Groove? It’s a parade like ‘Street Parade’, but of course in much much smaller dimensions, which doesn’t mean it’s less fun, it’s even better in my mind and without those peepz which are clothed like if they are popped out of Blade Runner.

However, Jungle Street Groove which was originally a drum ‘n’ bass parade, widened its music spectrum more and more every year but has still it’s origins somewhere there. So we thought we try to come up with a set focusing more on UK-Funky, Garage, 2-step and booty house stuff. Check these tracks out as a warm up and if you are in Basel this weekend, don’t miss the two afterparties with London’s Breakage and the housy Nina Kraviz. All relevant infos can be found here.

An older remix by ‘Exploited’ label boss Shir Khan here. Reminded me instantly of the classic Big Fun and I also noticed that chord-heavy-house tracks are playable again. I like that rollin’ reverse bass too.

Love at first sight: Seiji

Whilst checking out the upcoming 5 Years of Man Recordings Compilation I stumbled upon ‘Basslips’; the contribution of the british uk-funky / house mind Seiji for this long-awaited project, and a tune which probably a lot of DJs can’t wait to play.
I knew Seiji from his older releases and I wasn’t following his work for a while, but this track brought me back on his stuff. Compared with the rest of the uk-funky scene, I see Seiji somehow in a deeper and more balearic spot, and if he continues in this way with his releases, 2010 is definitely going to be great for him.

Seiji is also one of those rare guys who is giving away freebies from his site regurarely, so check these one out and grab the Compilation of Man Recordings on 6th September!

Monday Mixes: Catz n Dogz

Some people may have heard of 3 Channels. They were releasing a few years ago on Trapez when Minimal-Techno was droning from the Clubspeakers. 3 Channels are Grzegorz Demianczuk and Wojciech Taranczuk from Poland which are now releasing also with their alias Catz n Dogz. Well I do like their new productions which are now much housier, but also sometimes quite deep or crazy (I’m the one who’s crazy)!

Love at first sight: Nicolas Jaar

A very good friend of mine sent me a mail with these new edits of Nicolas Jaar. I started to remember, when I first got in touch with the beautiful music of Nicolas Jaar and searched for “Nicolas Jaar” in our Blog. And I found three Tracks of him since January this year, in our monthly charts. I realized that it was time to dedicate a post to Nicolas Jaar.

He was born in New York and raised up in Chile and at the age of 11, he went back to New York. He started composing Piano-Based Tracks until he discovered Electronic Music.
At the age of 17, he sent his track called ‘Student’ to the Label Wolf + Lamb and they were fascinated of his music. I have to admit that I love all his tunes and I feel like I could get never enough! I read somewhere that he mentioned Erik Satie & Mulatu Astatke as his influences. Wonderful.

Bobmo – Bring It

I like the old stuff on Institubes very much and was very happy now when I saw this new EP by Bobmo, which sounds very fresh. The tracks are quite oldschool house / electro inspired and while listening one tune reminded me instantly of Hot City, and what a surprise, it was his remix.. The EP gets also a contribution by the mighty Douster and is going to be released in two weeks!

Kitties Wanna Dance

The outstanding ‘cat’ obsessive label called Suara by spanish house master Uner just released their first compilation after two years of sweeping away the dancefloors all around the world, proving their quality work again.
I just posted Virgo Soul by Jet Project out of this compilation, and also blogged the smashing tune by Pirupa earlier here, but I thought this round up deserves some more attention.
Actually it was hard to pick out four tracks, since this compilation has ten super tunes to give, which you can buy them all right here. However, here we go.

A typic straight Hermanez track, starting with a chasing hi-hat wave that bursts everything away and also has a break part which will take along even the most bored guy on the dancefloor.

Love at first sight: Letherette

Thanks to a conversation of two friends on facebook I instantly felt in love with the newcomer band called Letherette. I first discovered the Track called Blad. And thought wow! After that I found a Mix they did for BTS Radio and it happened again. I listened to it about three times in a row. And that happenes maybe five times a year to me!

Letherette just did a glorious official  Remix for Bibio (Warp), a collaboration with Theophilius London and a Remix for Machinedrum. Their Track Blad also appeared on the Brownswood Compilation, which is a very nice compilation with lots of my contemporary favorite artists.

Pelski Presents: Jet Project

Our friends from You Can Call Me Pelski Blog sincerely asked us for a promotion of their second party they are going to do this Saturday in London, and it must be some kind of a predestination, because I was just about to do a post about Jet Project, their Headliner.

I personally came across Jet Project when I was making researches on Yankee Zulu aka John Mciver, the one half of Jet Project. Started to like their  characteristic sound of techy-house beats and deep tribal vibes, I thought I’ve had to know them much earlier. The belfast duo consisting of Timmy Stewart (T-Bone) and John Mciver have been signed on the renowned Get Physical Records and already released on labels like Viva, Darkroom Dubs, Intimacy Music and set up their own imprint Get Digital.

Now they are headlining the second installment of ‘Pelski Presents’ by the extraordinary bloggerduo Pelski & Darkly, so if you are in London this weekend, you know where the best party will take place!

Cottam, MAW and Tom EQ

I’m in the mood to sum up some tracks I got send or discovered recently, so here it goes. To start with, a track which is not really easy to get in by the british up and coming producer Cottam.
He released ‘The Rub’ EP a while ago, following the path of his Untitled series, setting himself apart by his fresh use of samples and utra-slow building up tracks.
At parties which not seem to end, his stuff will glue everyone a few minutes more on the dancefloor, actually it worked for me. Check his soundcloud for more!

Let’s continue with african stuff. I heard this old gem by the mighty Masters at Work in a mix recently and I was instantly into it. I mean, thats whats about in african-tribalesque stuff, a repetition which is simple, original and keeps dancing, not more!

Tom EQ who is known for his effective edits and remixes, comes now with his second EP on Jack Union. The main track is a bass-driven hypnotizer, which gets an acid-like basslined remix by Hijack.
