Round Table Knights – Say What?! Tour

The swiss-export Round Table Knights are celebrating their debut album Say What?! on Made To Play with a tour and stopping by in Basel this saturday.
Their album holds older hits like Cut To The Top, Drop The Dow or Calypso and also a bunch of new stuff, bringing down influences of Swing, Funk, Garage and Pop under one roof. Say What?! is and undisputed proof of Round Table Knights forward thinking approach in their beings as musicians.

We had a nice chat with them a while ago. However, in courtesy of our upcoming gig with them we wrote that Interview down for you. At that time we didn’t know anything about an album and talked just about general things. Check it out after the jump!

What is the most boring and annoying question one could ask you in an Interview?

RTK: That question!

(general giggles)

RTK (Chris): mmm…I don’t know. They don’t ask that in Interviews, but lot of people ask us if we are brothers. And…
RTK (Mark): No, we are not!

(laughter)

Alright, guys, tell us what are your artist name is all about?

RTK: Oh no, THATS actually the most boring question!

(laughter)

RTK (Chris): Our name comes from a hip hop record, they were rapping like “..round table knights” or something. And in the beginning we were a Turntablism team, so we thought it’s cool and we can use it for scratching.
Actually the name is -it means nothing, it’s totally wrong. It should be knights of the round table. But in a way I like it because it means nothing.

CD or Vinyl?

RTK (Chris): CD!
RTK (Marc): VINYL!

London or Berlin?

RTK (Chris): Berlin
RTK (Marc): London

Lion King or Jungle Book?

Both: Jungle Book ofcourse!

Renaissance Man or Oliver $?

(laughter)

Honestly, we just wanted to see the reactions

DJing alone or together?

Both: Together!

Lady Gaga or Rihanna?

Both: Rihanna!

Dogs or Cats?

RTK (Marc): Dogs…

(pause)

RTK (Chris): Cats!
RTK (Marc): What??! You hate cats!

(laughter)

RTK (Chris): Yeah I hate both actually, the thing is, now in the new office they have two dogs now, Bobby has one and Diddy has one. And they are so annoying. And all the time they are playing together and everyone is like “oh its so funny they are playing together!” And they make fucking noizes all the time, ahhh I hate it. Cats are much more quiet.

(laughter)

RTK (Chris): Vodka!
RTK (Marc): Gin

Well…let’s get a little bit more into the deep: You spend so much time together, while touring and producing etc. How comes that you still don’t hate each other? How is that working out so well?

RTK (Chris): I think it has to do that we respect each other. And sometimes ofcourse you get bored but..
RTK (Marc): … we leave each other alone
RTK (Chris): … yeah
RTK (Marc): I think thats important. Everybody has his thing and the stuff he does, his role..
RTK (Chris): We have to say that we never had big troubles together. But sometimes it gets scary. Even when we have a day off, we’re having dinner together and stuff like that.

(laughter)

RTK (Chris): Yeah really, sometimes it’s crazy

You are like brothers.

RTK (Chris): Yeah!

Good and the last question! Which song would you play in a romantic date?

RTK (Marc): I guess…it would be something form Towns & Sand. It’s a country singer songwirter. I don’t know which song..

(Chris has troubles answering the question…)

Come on you are a DJ!

RTK (Chris): Yeah but I never play romantic songs!

RTK (Chris): I don’t know….something slowly…
RTK (Marc): Ah OK!

(laughter)

RTK (Chris): Yeah…maybe…something from Joanna Newsom or something like that…
RTK (Marc): Oh no..
RTK (Chris): I really don’t know…I’m not so romantic…
